Install Guides…

Filed under: Uncategorized — Tom @ 4:11 pm

Hey All,

I am working on putting together some install guides for Windows Home Server. One of them will be how to properly upgrade from RC to RTM, and the other will be how to do a clean install from scratch. If you have anything you want to see in either of these guides, please let me know.

  1. If it’s not already on your plan, I would highlight the importance of using a real floppy drive (rather than a USB floppy or flash pen) to load third party storage drivers, since the text-mode part of the install does not recognise USB devices, unlike the earlier WinPE section.

  2. Tom – How is it possible to post a tutorial from RC to RTM, if MS is not offering a stand-alone version of Home Server? Either that – or they are planning on putting the System Builder version on regular retail shelves..

I have to admit – I’m a little disappointed that after all this work we did working through the install process, bugging it, etc, that it sounds as though MS is only allowing a complete system to be purchased by the general public – not the software for those who have the experience and urge to build their own system…

    Thoughts?
