First Day Recap

Filed under: Uncategorized — Tom @ 9:20 pm

So, today was my first day at Microsoft, and all can say is “Wow!”. Went to orientation this morning at 8 am and then went to Building 43 at 9 and met up with Todd Headrick (my mentor) and we went directly from Building 43 to Building 42 to the Home Server war room, and I met Charlie Kindel, and various other members of the development and test teams. After that meeting, we went to a planning meeting where we discussed ideas for V2, and for those of you involved in the beta test programs, they are listening to your feedback. So please on Connect file suggestions and vote on other suggestions that are in the bug database. Went and had lunch in the awesome (seriously, it is awesome) cafeteria. After lunch Todd and I went back to building 43 and I got my desk and computer all setup and then met with Daniel Ong of the product development team, and I will be working with Daniel on writing and add-in for Home Server. Today overall was a very good day, and I am exhausted so I think I am going to go to bed now. 🙂

UPDATE: So if you have been following this post and reading the comments you will see Charlie Kindel’s comment. The story behind that is on my first day, Todd and I were walking over from building 43 to building 42 to attend the Home Server ship-room meeting, and he told me that he would not be held responsible for any inappropriate language that I heard, and so when we got to the meeting we told everybody about that, and Daniela, the test team manager, came up with the idea that everytime somebody used inappropriate language they had to pay me a dollar. So, Charlie and a few others in the meeting ended up paying me $5 yesterday. Thanks guys! I also made fun of Charlie, because he works for Microsoft and is using a Mac. 🙂

can you share some of the ideas for V2 with us, or are they top-secret 😀 ?

  2. V2 ideas are currently top-secret, but please keep filing suggestions and voting on suggestions on Connect. We are actively looking at suggestions on Connect, so if there is something you want to see, send it to us 🙂

  3. Tom, you didn’t tell everyone how we now have to pay $1 for each time we use one of the 7 banned words during ship-room meetings. Or how you made fun of me for my laptop. 😉

  7. So….. if Charlie’s using a Mac while working at Microsoft, is that any indication that WHS will have Connect software and automated backups for OS-X?
