I found another possible fix…

…for slow file transfers. This fix only applies to Windows Vista.

1. Click on Start -> Control Panel

2. Click on Programs

3. Turn Windows Features on and off (If a UAC prompt appears click Continue.)

4. Scroll down to Remote Differential Compression and uncheck the box

5. Click OK and after configuration is complete, restart your computer

Remote Differential Compression computes and transfers the differences
between two objects over a network using minimal bandwidth.

  1. Interesting observation, what affect will turning off RDC have on backups through WHS? Seems like RDC is used to keep the backups small (only copy deltas) , I would hate to have to sacrifice small backup footprints for increased upload speed to the WHS.
